“The extraordinary efforts of Precise Systems to hire, retain and support veterans and the military-connected community have earned the organization one of our highest awards,” said George Altman, president of VETS Indexes.

“Competition for the VETS Indexes Employer Awards was tougher than ever in 2024, as a record number of organizations participated. Even with hundreds of employers in the running, the veterans program at Precise Systems stood out from the rest. Congratulations to Precise Systems on this outstanding achievement!” Altman said.

This year, a record 344 organizations submitted completed surveys for the VETS Indexes Employer Awards, an increase of more than 100 from last year and nearly triple the number from two years ago. Of those, VETS Indexes recognized 285 organizations across the following award levels: 5 Star Employer, 4 Star Employer, 3 Star Employer, and Recognized Employer. Not every responding organization made the cut – only those that demonstrated a strong commitment to veterans, members of the National Guard and Reserves, and military spouses. Participating organizations included companies large and small, government agencies and departments, nonprofit groups, colleges, and universities.

As the most objective and comprehensive evaluation of veteran employers, the VETS Indexes Employer Awards program has set a new standard in veteran employment data. VETS Indexes and its Employer Awards have been featured on CNBC, Fox Business and BNN Bloomberg, as well as military-specific outlets, including Military.com, Military Times and Stars & Stripes. This in-depth survey and recognition program analyzes employers’ policies, practices, and outcomes in detail, across the following 5 categories:

  • Veteran job candidate recruiting and hiring
  • Veteran employee development and retention
  • Veteran-inclusive policies and culture
  • Support for members of the National Guard and Reserves
  • Military spouse/family support

About VETS Indexes

VETS Indexes is a leading voice on veteran employment issues, overseeing the VETS Indexes Employer Awards, hosting the Employing U.S. Vets Conference, unearthing unique and unprecedented data on veteran employment through the Veteran Employment Benchmarking Service, and developing custom indexes, linked to financial products, that track the performance of the publicly traded companies that have established themselves as the best employers for veterans.

The VETSX and VTRNIX indexes were created on the premise that the companies that make the best use of the highly talented, yet under-valued, talent pool that veterans represent will ultimately see a benefit to their bottom lines. The performance of the indexes has emphatically confirmed that thesis, outpacing the S&P 500.

As the world’s first resource for U.S.-veteran-themed indexes, our mission is to provide innovative solutions that recognize the value created by the mission-critical mindset, unique skills, and specialized training that veterans bring to the workplace. Our mission also includes a commitment to always donate a significant portion (target of 20% and no less than 5%) of our net profits to charitable organizations that support veterans and their families.

Precise Named #1 Best for Vets Employer in Maryland

ARLINGTON, VA, November 7, 2022 — Military Times announced its 2022 Best for Vets: Employers rankings today.

This year, 230 organizations submitted responses to the Best for Vets: Employers survey that was fielded from May through August, and 175 employers made the list. This editorially independent program produces a highly respected analysis of a company’s efforts to recruit, retain, and support current and former service members, military spouses, and military caregivers.

The 2022 Best For Vets Employers recognizes Precise Systems as a leader in numerous geographic locations and sectors:

  • 1st in Maryland
  • 3rd in SME (Small or Medium Enterprise)
  • 6th in Defense – Aerospace
  • 35th in For-Profit Company
  • 38th Overall

The 2022 rankings can be found here: employers.militarytimes.com/2022

“Military Times continues to set the standard for employer rankings for transitioning service members and veterans. Although often imitated, there is no other list that comes close to Best for Vets: Employers,” says Mort Greenberg, SVP of media solutions at Military Times. “We stand by the rigor and soundness of this survey, which spotlights companies’ employment programs that help transitioning service members excel in their post-military careers.”

Last year, Military Times collaborated with Fors Marsh to update the research methodology and analysis from previous years to provide a streamlined, user-friendly survey experience for participants. The survey was made based on subject matter expert reviews of the survey and rigorous qualitative research, including focus groups and in-depth interviews with Military Times subscribers. FMG designed, deployed, analyzed, and wrote the report for this year’s survey.

The survey captures the areas of greatest importance to transitioning service members, veterans, and their families when looking for an employer. Recruitment and employment practices, as well as retention and support programs, were given the most weight and importance in scoring and final rankings.

“Fors Marsh recognizes the tremendous benefit of hiring military veterans. We’re proud to have had the opportunity to once again partner with Military Times to highlight companies that prioritize the issues important to transitioning service members, veterans, and their families when seeking employment,” said Nicole Togno, Director of Evidence and Insights at Fors Marsh. “Being named a Best for Vets employer can attract some of the very best talent this country has to offer—hands down.”

In its 13th year, Military Times Best for Vets: Employers rankings are based on the results of a voluntary survey that covered the policies and practices that make companies an attractive place to work for current employees and future job seekers within the military community.

#PeopleOfPrecise: Meet Lindsey Medina

Meet Lindsey Medina – Graphic Designer and Precise Systems’ employee spotlight for August 2025.

Lindsey officially joined our Precise Team in early 2024, when Precise announced its acquisition of JHT. She brought her passion and talent for graphic design with her, excited to contribute to the ever-evolving brand of our organization. Immediately, Lindsey was drawn to the tenacious, collaborative, and adaptable culture of Precise and could not wait to get started.

Her love of graphic design began long before she became a member of the Precise Team, but no matter what, she has always found the rules to be the most interesting part of her work. She explains, “Every project comes with a visual framework or style guide, but it’s the creative problem-solving inside those boundaries that excites me. I love looking at a design challenge as a puzzle: how do I surprise and delight while still meeting expectations?” With each new project, Lindsey is thrilled by the prospect of balancing innovation with consistency – pushing just enough to feel fresh, while still hitting the brief, and knowing that everything has clicked into place, both functionally and aesthetically.

Lindsey has had the chance to work on numerous projects throughout her career and time with Precise, but one that stands out for her is the U.S. Army’s xTech AI Grand Challenge. This effort gave her the chance to flex a wide range of skills, from producing an animated informative video to developing polished final presentation materials. She also collaborated with an incredibly talented team of 2D and 3D artists, whose own strengths pushed Lindsey to elevate her own graphic design and animation work. Speaking about her experience, she says, “It was a challenge to adapt Precise’s brand into the Army’s design standards, but it was also deeply satisfying results. Projects like this remind me why I love what I do: blending creativity with strategy to not only impress the customer but also strengthen our team’s sense of identity and capability.”

It is hard to see Lindsey as anything other than the amazing and superb designer that she is, but if she did not choose a career in graphic design, she would have loved to pursue either medicine or engineering for the same reason she did choose graphic design – they are all about problem solving and improving people’s lives. She is extremely thankful she followed her passion for art and design, but still knows that even if she did not, she still would have wanted to professionally contribute in a way that combines empathy and innovation to find practical, human-centered solutions that make life better for others.

Lindsey’s creative passion even goes beyond her 9-5! When asked about a skill she has always wanted to learn, she says that she would love to learn how to crochet, saying that there is something magical about a craft that machines still cannot fully replicate. Crocheting feels timeless and deeply human to her and speaks to her inner “Golden Girl” – something that lets her simply sit with yarn and make something cozy!

We are so grateful Lindsey joined our Precise Team and brought her undeniable talent. No matter where you look, you can see Lindsey’s impact and ideas brought to life. Thank you, Lindsey, for scaling our Precise brand each and every day!

#PeopleOfPrecise: Meet Denis Oliverio

Meet Denis Oliverio – Marine Corps veteran, Purple Heart recipient, and Precise Systems’ employee spotlight for August 2025.

Each year, August 7th is observed as National Purple Heart Day. This day remembers and honors the courageous men and women who have been wounded or killed in action while defending our freedoms. One of our very own, Denis Oliverio, is one of these heroes.

From a young age, he knew that the Marine Corps was the only option for him. Denis always had a firm belief in military service, something he got from his mother, as she watched many of her friends deploy and serve their country. He still carries with him the leadership, discipline, attention to detail, and selfless service to others the Marine Corps instilled in him from the very beginning, and he makes it his daily goal to live up to that same ethos.

Denis received the Purple Heart for the severe wounds he sustained during a combat mission. This profound honor is not one that he takes lightly, knowing that there are many recipients of this medal who never get to see it because they paid the ultimate price for our freedom. He says, “I was very lucky, but others weren’t. I never lose sight of that.”

His story reached the desk of former president George W. Bush and left an indelible impact. You can find Denis’s portrait and story of bravery included in the book Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors, as well as in the traveling art exhibition currently on display in the Epcot Center in Florida.

He now takes the adversity he gained through that experience and his time in service and applies it to his own approach for leadership and teamwork at our organization. He explains that adversity helps you focus on what is important and requires you to do what needs to be done, no matter how difficult. It also teaches you to utilize the individual strengths of your team and allows them to perform to their fullest. Being resourceful and resilient create strong leaders and teams – attributes he carries with him in his role each day.

Denis’s last assignment in uniform was on the 53K Systems Engineering team at PMA-261. He had the opportunity to work closely with the Precise CSS team, including Scott Pfister, and had the opportunity to learn the Precise culture early on. He was quickly drawn to the core values of “Putting People First” and “Delighting the Customer” and knew that he had found the perfect fit.

For any veterans currently transitioning into civilian careers, he would tell them to continue utilizing all the tools the military has provided, as they are extremely valuable and will serve them well. Denis explains, “Keep your military pride, and never forget the importance of communication and attitude. Stay connected and remember – it’s all about relationships!”

While his time in the Marine Corps brought many challenges, it also gave him many memories he will cherish forever. One of his best memories is watching his Marines come home after his last deployment. When he had to be medevac’d due to his injuries, he worried about them constantly. As their leader, he hated to be taken away from them and not be able to be there for them or look after them, especially in conflict.

When the time came, though, Denis was allowed to leave Bethesda National Naval Medical Center and travel to Twenty-Nine Palms to be there when his platoon got off the bus. He describes this moment as the highlight of his career – being able to see them all come home.

There is nothing we can ever do to repay Denis and the numerous other men and women who have fought so hard for our nation, but we forever owe them our debt of gratitude. We recognize you all today and thank you for your selfless and courageous service. You are the heroes we honor today and every day!

#PeopleOfPrecise: Meet Chris Powels

Meet Chris Powels – Toxicology Scientist Technician and Precise Systems’ employee spotlight for June 2025.

Chris joined our Precise organization in the spring of 2023 as part of our Operational Toxicology team, where he works as a Toxicology Scientist Technician. Much of his work centers on characterizing existing and emerging threats to produce human estimates of toxicity, utilizing a variety of in vivo and in vitro assays and techniques. One of his favorite aspects of his role, he says, is the implementation of surgical models and behavioral studies. Chris explains, “I particularly enjoy the precision and focus my work requires, as such during surgical procedures.”

He and the rest of our Operational Toxicology team play a crucial role in protecting our warfighters, as they provide the necessary data that informs protective measures and medical countermeasures for the U.S. Army. Every day, they collectively work towards better understanding the toxic effects of potential chemical threats. Ultimately, their contributions lead to a safer national defense overall by ensuring our personnel are prepared for and protected against a wide range of potential hazards.

All his life, Chris has possessed a natural curiosity that makes him strive to ask questions and seek answers – ultimately leading to the scientific career he has now. He says, “It’s a field that allows me to constantly learn, explore, and always find more ways to ask ‘why’”.

He finds that one of the most impactful ways he can find his answers is through the data he works with on a daily basis. Chris explains that he is especially intrigued to learn more about data science and machine learning and the ease of accessibility these new techniques offer. He believes that applying these techniques would open up a whole new world of insights from the datasets he and the Operational Toxicology team work with, even allowing them to detect subtle distinctions and improve our predictive capabilities. This, he says, would be incredibly useful in early symptom detection and compound differentiation.

Something a lot of people may not know about Chris is his hobby outside of the lab – playing cello in the Baltimore Gamer Symphony Orchestra! This fantastic group, with over 100 members, exclusively performs music composed for video games. The Orchestra offers free concerts and hosts social events around the Baltimore area, so be sure to check Chris and the rest of these incredible musicians out!

Thank you to Chris and the rest of our Operational Toxicology team for the mission-critical work you do day in and day out. Our warfighters are safer because of you and we are grateful you are part of our organization, contributing to a greater defense every day!

#PeopleOfPrecise: Meet Caitlin Machnicki

Meet Caitlin Machnicki – PMA-201 FMS Team Lead, cancer survivor, and Precise Systems’ employee spotlight for June 2025.

At the start of this month, we recognized National Cancer Survivors Day on Sunday, June 1st and the inspiring stories of individuals who have battled the hurdles and challenges of cancer, including our very own – Caitlin Machnicki.

Caitlin is part of our PMA-201 Foreign Military Sales (FMS) team as a Team Lead and Program Analyst, where she supports over 115 people, 40 countries, and 254 cases. Her role as a Program Analyst includes the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of various organizational programs and projects. As a Team Lead, she gets the opportunity to guide and support a team of six members, helping them reach their goals each day.

As a key player on an FMS team, she has received firsthand experience collaborating with different countries and cultures, and how those interactions inform the work she does. When asked what she has learned from it all, Caitlin says, “The importance of respect and humility – approaching each partnership with respect and humility has been fundamental within my time at PMA-201 FMS. Acknowledging that different cultures have unique strengths and perspectives fosters an environment of mutual respect and collaboration, leading to lasting relationships and successful outcomes.”

Caitlin has certainly made an indelible mark on our organization through the top-notch support she provides to our customers and nation, but her story is truly what makes her an inspiration to us all.

Nearly 10 years ago, she battled the diagnosis and treatment of lymphoma. In 2018, she received her final round of chemotherapy, and since then, has courageously shared her cancer journey. In her own way, Caitlin is inspired by the stories and journeys of other cancer survivors. This is what has empowered her to share her story so fearlessly. Now, it has become therapeutic for her, helping her process her own experiences and find meaning in the overall journey.

After everything she has been through, Caitlin is passionate about helping others who are currently going through cancer treatment. She wants them to know the unique strength it brings out in them, despite the harsh reality of what they are facing. Her mindset was her biggest weapon, reminding herself and others – “You can either be a victim of cancer, or you can be a survivor of cancer. The choice is yours.”

She also advises prioritizing physical and emotional healing, explaining that this can serve as a powerful source in maintaining hope and restoring energy.

Caitlin’s unique strength and power allows her to support her son, her loved ones, and her work in the most awe-inspiring ways. She is excited about the opportunities coming her way, which will hopefully include bucket list trips to The Maldives, Alaska, and Thailand!

To all cancer survivors, patients, caretakers, and angels – thank you for your bravery and fortitude that inspires us all every day. We are thankful for the chance to support you and Caitlin and are with you every step of the way!

#PeopleOfPrecise: Meet Virgil Mendivil

Meet Virgil Mendivil – SkillBridge Program participant, Air Force airman, and Precise Systems’ employee spotlight for May 2025.

Virgil joined our Precise Team in March, as part of his participation in the DoD SkillBridge Program. This program gives active-duty service members the chance to gain professional experience in the civilian sector during their last 180 days of service. This provides them with the necessary skills, experience, and network they will need once they enter civilian life full-time.

Participating in the SkillBridge program gave Virgil an inside look into how the skills gained from his military service can transition into the civilian sector. He feels confident in his abilities outside of the uniform and is grateful for the structured opportunity the program has provided to explore his future career path.

Before he became part of our organization, Virgil served for 23 years in the United States Air Force. His initial plan was to join the Marine Corps, but his girlfriend at the time (now wife) introduced him to the military’s hidden gem of the Air National Guard. From there, he was hooked and now looks back on his time in the Air Force with great fondness. He says, “I’m preparing to retire with no regrets and a heart full of gratitude for the journey.”

Virgil recalls some of his greatest memories from his service time, including the experience of flying in an F-16. On that incentive ride, he pulled 9.1 G’s before blacking out. That moment alone, and so many others, gave him a deep appreciation for the strength and skill of our warfighters. This experience is one of the many that showed him just how incredible it is to be part of the Air Force.

As he gets ready to trade in his uniform for a polo and slacks, he knows that there are many others just like him who are trying to prepare for the rest of the professional career. To any service member thinking of joining the SkillBridge program, Virgil’s best advice would be to start the process early and choose a program that aligns with your future goals. He has come to experience first-hand what an excellent opportunity this program provides, being able to apply his military experience in a civilian setting, gain new skills, and build a professional network for his life after service.

Virgil knew that Precise was the perfect fit for him when he realized just how valued the work ethic and perspective of veterans is at our organization. From day one, he felt genuinely welcomed and appreciated for his service and unique experience. Every day since, he has seen the inclusive, collaborative family that Precise Systems truly is. Supporting our nation’s veterans is paramount to our culture, and we are grateful that Virgil chose us to be the stepping stone for the rest of his career.

To Virgil and all of our nation’s veterans – “thank you” does not even begin to describe our gratitude for your strength, sacrifice, and service to our country. We are forever in your debt but honored that we get to play a role in recognizing and saluting you.
